Seeds of Shamanism
A foundation course in shamanism
Four full Sundays over six months · Galway
Dates to be announced
Seeds of Shamanism is a welcoming, practical introduction for people with some or no experience in shamanism. If you feel curious but are unsure where to begin, this course offers a grounded space to explore, ask questions and discover what shamanic practice means to you. No particular beliefs or previous experience are needed.
With an Irish focus, we draw on the landscape, folklore and connection to nature, combining accessible teaching with plenty of guided practical work. The six-month journey gives you time between gatherings to reflect, practise and build confidence at your own pace.
What you will explore
The foundations and background of shamanism, with an emphasis on Irish connections to land, story and spirit.
Shamanic journeying and an introduction to the lower, middle and upper worlds.
Opening and closing the directions, exploring their meanings and creating a clear beginning and ending to your practice.
Ancestors, spirit guides and developing your own relationship with these ideas.
Working with the drum, rattle and other shamanic tools.
Gentle conversations about soul, death, the cycles of life and renewal.
Nature awareness, including quiet observation and mindful movement outdoors, sometimes called stalking awareness.
We will also briefly touch on selected shamanic and spiritual traditions from South America, Mongolia, Native American communities, Aboriginal Australia and Africa, recognising that each has its own distinct histories and practices.
Learning through practice
Each Sunday includes teaching, guided journeys, reflection and practical exercises. You will have opportunities to practise opening and closing the directions, work with rhythm and sound, and deepen your awareness in nature.
The emphasis is on a light, approachable foundation with room for curiosity and healthy scepticism. You will develop the tools and confidence to continue journeying at home, alongside simple grounding and reflection practices.
